Where, What, and How to Recycle
Anyone in the Shoals area (whether they live in Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia or outside a city limits) can take and is encouraged to take their recyclable materials to the Florence Center. Collection bins for your home can be purchased at the recycling center.
Florence city residents are encouraged to place recyclable materials out for curbside pick-up on their designated day. They can also take directly to the recycling center.
The following is a list of materials accepted by the Florence Recycling Center:
Cardboard – both corrugated and chipboard
(boxes for cereal, laundry detergents, foods, can drinks, etc.)
Paper – All paper is recyclable, even shredded
Steel – Cans for food (rinsed, please) and other types of metal
Aluminum – Some aluminum is recyclable including cans, gutters, lawn chairs, etc.
Plastic – Bottles and jugs with a #1 or #2 in the triangle on the bottom
Examples may include beverage bottles, shampoo containers, washing agents, etc.
Electronics – Drop off only. No small appliances.
Motor/Cooking Oil – Please label and drop off at the Florence Recycling Center. No antifreeze or brake fluids.
Materials not accepted by the Florence Recycling Center:
Aluminum foil and disposable baking pans
Plastics other than the types listed above
(including food containers, dishes, wrapping plastics, shopping bags, etc.)
Styrofoam
(egg cartons, packing materials, cups, etc.)
Glass
Food Scraps
